Save up to $1000 on Your Taxes

Is your income under $27,750 if you are single or $55,500 if you are married filing jointly?  Do you save at least $2000 a year in a 401(k), Traditional IRA, or Roth IRA?    If so, you are eligible for tax credit worth up to $1000!  That is a free $1000 off your tax bill from the government just because you  save for your own retirement!

According to this post, the Retirement Savings Contribution Credit is overlooked by millions of qualified people every year.  That means millions of people are simply missing out on tax savings!  Even though the credit is non-refundable, which means it can only take your bill down to zero, it’s still free money for low-income families that are saving for their own retirement.

My husband and I do not qualify for this credit now, but we did the first two years out of college.  It would have taken our tax bill down to zero both of those years!  I hope some of my readers can take advantage.

Weekly Stats and Money Update #4 for 2011

During the Yakezie Alexa Ranking Challenge, you helped BFS soar from an Alexa ranking of more than 8 million in March 2010 to 49,852 on October 31, 2010. Thank you!!!

Then, after seeing all the interest for my blog stats and income updates, I created a new challenge to complete by January 1st, 2011. You helped me get an Alexa ranking of 43,055, 28,687 total visits, 239 RSS Subscribers, and 228 Twitter Followers!!! WOOT!

Since I do plan on blogging full time by 2012, this is the year for a HUGE push. I have come up with new goals to keep us on the right track!

Here are my Goals for July 4th, 2011:

Here is what we are shooting for by the Fourth of July – July 4th, 2011:

Alexa – Maintain a Ranking at or around 37,500
Visits – 60,000 total visits (I started BFS on February 20th, 2010)
Feedburner Subscribers – 500
Twitter Followers – 500
MozRank – 5.5

Today’s Update

Alexa – 39,418  (We are getting so close!  This is the lowest Alexa ever!)
Visits – 31,921  (28,079 to go…we can do it!)
Feedburner Subscribers – 288 (212 to go)
Twitter Followers – 289 (211 to go)
MozRank – 5.02 (0.48 to go)

As always, thank you so much for being my supporters! Obviously, I could not do any of this without you and I never forget that!!!

The Saved Quarter Challenge Update

I joined The Saved Quarter Challenge this year and am aiming to save at least $21,000 by the end of 2011! That would be a tiny bit more than 25% of our GROSS pay from our two full time jobs.

Here’s how I’ve done this week for the Saved Quarter Challenge ($21,000 Goal):

I have better updates after the 13th of every month since that is when our billing periods end, but here is where we funnelled away money this past week:

  • I made a few hundred dollars through blogging, but I am not counting it as saved until it is banked after February 13th.  So I have not technically saved away anything this week.
  • Mr. BFS and I have also decided to stop buying expensive low point foods now that we are on Weight Watchers.  Instead, we are simply cutting back on our portions and adding healthier foods like more fruits and vegetables.  Hopefully this will get our grocery budget back on track…

Total This Week:  $0 until we see what’s left on February 13th.

Total to date: $1820 guaranteed, $19,180 to go.

Additonal Info

I will continue posting monthly and yearly blog statistics and income updates from here on out, so stay tuned at the beginning of every month!

In case you didn’t know, Alexa traffic rankings are determined by the numbers of hits a site gets by people with the Alexa toolbar. If you want to be part of this ranking community, you can download the Alexa toolbar here. icon smile Weekly Stats and Money Update #4 for 2011

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING THE BEST READERS EVER!!!

Sorry for the Pingbacks!

I, like a complete idiot, deleted all of my post tags.  Now that I’m re-adding tags to all of my posts, WordPress seems to re-pinging everybody.  I am so sorry.  I do need to add back my tags but I should be done with all my search engine optimization catch-ups within the next few weeks.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make up for the pingback ghosts!  icon smile Sorry for the Pingbacks!

BFS is in the Free Money Finance March Money Madness

Hi to all the FMF readers! Glad to see you!  I really hope you enjoyed my post.  Feel free to take a look around.

I am a huge supporter of automation and prioritization when it comes to money and my current readers can attest that I try to keep things fun.  icon smile BFS is in the Free Money Finance March Money Madness

Credit Card Rewards for 2010

As you may have picked up from past posts, my husband and I use rewards credit cards for almost all of our expenses and pay them off at the end of every billing period.  We do this for several reasons, but the biggest one to me is that we get cash back and gift cards for things we were going to buy anyway!  Yay!

Here’s how we did in 2010:

Discover More – 5% cash back on rotating categories and 1% on everything else after the first $3000.

Our 2010:  $204.35 in total cash back.

We used $90 to buy a few gifts cards and got an additional free 10% to boot, but we still haven’t used the rest.

PenFed Visa (which we got in July 2010) – 5% cash back on gasoline, 2% back on groceries, and 1% on everything else with no minimums.

Our 2010:  $62.67 in total cash back.

They automatically apply your monthly cash back to your bill, so all $62.67 was used, lol.

CitiForward Visa (also opened in July 2010) – 5 points for ever $1 spent on entertainment and restaurants and 1 point on anything else.

Our 2010:  With the HUGE sign up bonus (like 10,000 points), we accumulated more than 12,000 points overall.  This will be turned into at least $100 in gift cards, but I haven’t figured out which ones yet.

I actually really dislike point systems, so we may not use this card in 2011 very much at all.

Do you play the cash back game?  How did you do in 2010?
