I’m deciding to tackle my New Year resolutions head on this year. The first step will be to stay on top of the ones that are year round since I sort of let that go by the wayside last year. Oops.
With that in mind, I’m going to report my exercise activity weekly. My resolution was to have worked out the equivalent of 30 minutes at least 144 times in 2013.
The Plan
Okay, so I know making plans usually ends up being a bit laughable with me and exercise, but I better get to it while I feel motivated. Here’s what I’m thinking – I will work out (walk, jog, run, play an active sport, etc.) 30 minutes or more at least 3 times every week. But beyond that, I also would like to tone my upper arms and my stomach at least a little bit. My diet is important, but constantly focusing on food is a bit stressful and has me thinking about food all of the time. So I will try to maintain a balanced diet, and concentrate on activity instead. To boil down my weekly goals:
- Walk or do the equivalent at least 3 times a week
- Start or end that work out with 10 pushups and 10 situps. Move that up as they become easier.
- Concentrate on portion control but go back on Weight Watchers if I start gaining any extra pounds. This means I will be weighing in weekly as well.
- If I’m following my own rules, I should be able to lose 15 pounds by September 1, 2013 (weigh in at 150 or less).
Starting Point
Here is where I am starting from:
- Have not exercised this first week of January, but started yesterday.
- Also started the situps and pushups yesterday.
- I’ve eaten more than I should have this past week, but I am watching my portions so far.
- I weighed in last at 165.2 pounds.
If you have anything you’d like to tackle this year, please join on in!

Good luck! I am aiming to lose 19 pounds this year (it started off at 13, but then I gained 6 more pounds over the holidays… sigh). So far I am off to a good start but I suspect it is going to get a lot tougher as the year goes on.
I hope you achieve this goal! I have a hard time with portion control myself!
I started my week off right, with a 1 mile walk this morning. I try to walk a mile every day, but haven’t managed it for a month due to illness and weather. From now on if I do not walk, I will use my stationary bike and ride six miles instead.
I am cutting out all bread stuffs for this week, concentrating on salads, vegetables, and fruits. I will still eat rice, oatmeal, yams; just cutting out any bread or cake-like foods. Nothing fried. Only fruit for dessert. Thinking about cutting out all red meat and most milk products too (just eat yogurt), as my arthritis is flaring up. This leaves fish (salmon, tilapia, trout …), chicken (including those game hens, mmm), pork (I just like the pork loins at Sam’s for cheap meat), and eggs, as well as plant proteins (although tofu and me have some problems). There’s always nuts. I would like to lose 30 pounds by August, 2013. Would like to keep my blood sugar between 80-100. So far its more like 90-120. Losing 4-5 inches around the waist would be cool too. Better get up and get busy.
For todays menu: 6 oz of yogurt, orange, cup of tea,and a half cup of cinnamon oatmeal (no sugar, maybe splash of honey though). Lunch will be a herbed chicken breast with mix salad greens, grape tomatoes, asparagus, and an apple. Supper will be grilled pork, rice and mixed vegetables cooked together with some chicken broth, a romaine salad, and spiced pears. Think I will go make a couple quarts of unsweetened tea for the day and start the spiced pears.
Hope we are all successful!
We got a Wii and Wii fit for Christmas and have been using that. It makes it a little bit more fun!
We have an x box 360 …it has an exercise program. Maybe I will try that one out, see if it helps. We own a dancing game too ….my youngest uses it all the time. Maybe I will join her. Good idea Lance!
Check out the latest Ipod Nano, it has a built in Nike+ app. It can monitor the steps you do while you work out. It can also monitor the miles you’ve gone so far. This good side on this is you don’t have to buy the matching Nike shoes. Time for me to lose more weight! Goodluck!
