Great to See My Peeps at #Fincon17!!!

This post may contain affiliate links.

I’ve been to every Fincon since they started in 2011.  Fincon17 was a big success overall, emphasis on BIG.  1700 people or some crazy number like that.  My personal take was that it was simply too big.  I still truly appreciated my week, but you definitely have to take charge and form your own small groups or you’d get swallowed in the crowds.  Oh, and I learned that a bunch of people only recognize me when I have brightly colored hair – note to self.

My Peeps

Revanche from a Gai Shan Life, Maria Nedeva from The Money Principle, and Valerie Rind were my pillar peeps this year.  Joe Taxpayer couldn’t make it for the first time and was deeply missed.  It was also great to touch base with long term online friends like Ashley, Sherrian Crumbley, and Khaleef Crumbley.  I also enjoyed getting to know several new people like Elisa, Makenzie, Felicity, and Michael.

Connections

As Fincon grows, so do the number of vendor booths.  I was able to touch base with several new companies who interest me enough that I’ll be looking into affiliate relationships soon.  I restocked myself with sturdy pens, a couple of bags, and various other swag that I still need to unpack.

The Plutus Awards and Halloween Party

The best event this year was totally The Plutus Awards!  They felt personal and were a helluva good time.  Dalton Rapattoni (singer and performer recently on American Idol) actually popped in with a mini-concert at the end!!!  Totally awesome.  Then the costumed after party was a hoot.  Good people, good music, amazing costumes…just fantastic!

Overall, it was another great year at Fincon, though a bit more impersonal as it grows.  I’ve already bought my ticket for Fincon18 in Orlando, Florida and will see all of my personal finance geeks next year!!!

FYI:  I worked at a dead end cubicle job from 2005-2011 for about $30,000 per year.  I went self-employed in July 2011 and make between $70,000-$90,000 through blogging, professional pet sitting, hubby's reffing, and our rental home.  If you’d like to start your own site (link to my free step-by-step guide), I highly suggest checking out Bluehost (my referral link with a nice discount for you, PLUS a free custom header banner from me!).  Please contact me any time at budgetingfunstuff*at*gmail*dot*com with questions or just to brainstorm! I’d love to help!

  1. As usual, I was glad that I went, in the end, despite all pre-travel and post-travel stress 🙂 It was huge, though, for the size of our community and I think if it’s much bigger, I’ll have to seriously adjust my expectations in the future.
