About two weeks ago, I decided to try out contact lenses to make life a bit easier on those days that keeping up with glasses just sucks (like at water parks). Well, I’m running out of my free samples…
The Price of Contacts
Since I only wanted to use contacts once in a while, they have me using ones that you just wear for the day and throw away. Specifically, Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus by Ciba Vision. They are pretty comfortable. I sometimes I forget I’m wearing them. But, I hadn’t really thought about the price.
My eye doctor offered to get me 90 days for each eye for $120 total. Bleck.
But my little sister suggested using Google to find first-time-buyer discounts at one of the online contacts places. Thank you, sis! After a quick search, I found a 25% off coupon plus free shipping for VisionDirect.com (try using the code 25RMN at checkout until 12/31/2013).
The same 90 day supply for each eye of the exact same brand came to $87 total! Yay, less than $1 per set! And I am not planning on wearing these things every day. In fact, this 90 day supply should last me for 6-12 months depending on if I warm up to them more or not.
My View on Contacts
As of right now, I think they’ll be a once or twice a week thing just to stay in practice for the days that contacts will make my life way easier. For example, wearing contacts inside of the cow mascot costume will be WAY better than glasses. No more fog ups or accidental slips off my face. Wearing them to Schlitterbahn Water Park later this week will be way better than keeping up with glasses too.
But I think that’ll be about it. I still haven’t gotten used to how I look without glasses. Plus, putting these in and taking them out is still 3 to 10 minutes overall for me that I don’t think I’d spend on a daily basis even if I can cut that down significantly with practice. So hopefully I can find more great deals every 6 months or so and keep this new way of seeing to less than $200 a year. We’ll see (LOL, get it?).
Do you wear contacts too? Find any great deals to share?
