Sometimes There Just ISN’T Enough Time

How many times have you heard someone preach about time management while you are thinking “that is bullshit”?

Here on BFS alone, I’ve probably written more than a dozen posts on the subject.  I apologize if I ever made you roll your eyes so hard that they were in danger of never coming back.  Sometimes there is simply NOT enough time.

Just Not Enough Time

Living example:  I have been trying to squeak out enough time to type up my income and net worth update for April.  But that usually takes about 1-2 hours and I have not been able to shoehorn that in between answering blog ad deal emails (priority), pet sitting (another priority), spending time with friends and family (my main priority), and sleeping (a necessity that I rarely prioritize).

5 years ago, I could fit everything in by living off of 4-5 hours of sleep per night.  Yeah, well, I’m 34 now and it’s 6-7 hours minimum per night for me or I get woozy…and bitchy.

So if I can’t steal it from sleep and I refuse to steal it from my people or the money-making parts of my businesses, then I’m left with taking 20 minutes to let you know that the update will be coming, but not today.  My eyes are closing on their own right this second.

I feel like a big dumbass for ever suggesting that anyone power through.  Don’t power through – prioritize, live to those priorities, and don’t apologize for it.

Sometimes there just isn’t enough time, but there could be tomorrow, so good night.  🙂

FYI:  I worked at a dead end cubicle job from 2005-2011 for about $30,000 per year.  I went self-employed in July 2011 and make between $70,000-$90,000 through blogging, professional pet sitting, hubby's reffing, and our rental home.  If you’d like to start your own site (link to my free step-by-step guide), I highly suggest checking out Bluehost (my referral link with a nice discount for you, PLUS a free custom header banner from me!).  Please contact me any time at budgetingfunstuff*at*gmail*dot*com with questions or just to brainstorm! I’d love to help!

  1. You’re making a good choice! People should always come first, and that lack of sleep will catch up with you. FWIW, the financial updates are the posts I find least interesting, having been around here for a few years. I’d rather hear what’s new with you. So if they’re taking so much time, maybe drop the frequency to bimonthly or quarterly. Just keep having fun with the blog!

  2. I like your priorities. I second Abby’s suggestion, make them bimonthly or quarterly. I have a few things I have been putting off due to trying to lose a bit more weight, which is taking me an hour or two of exercise a day to achieve. They say just cutting the calories work, but I cut down to 1200 and was not losing as much as on a 1600 calories with the exercise. Have to take care of yourself before you can do much for others. Yeah, time management and dieting are sort of like our own kind of self- torture. You do have to do what has to be done, like feed dependents, bring in the money to pay bills and necessities. After that , you manage it so that you can be content about stuff and get some sleep. Dieting means cutting back on food, increasing activity, sleeping, while keeping a positive outlook, because it is an ongoing goal. Just because you lost that 10 lbs does not mean it will stay away. Like everything else that is a priority in life, it is a rinse and repeat type process.

  3. Crystal you are awesome. I can totally relate. You have to prioritize and do what is best for you. Skipping too much sleep is never a great idea. You can truly only burn the candle at both ends so long. You are a great friend and you motivate me to be my best. Just be happy and do the best you can do. Make sure to make your family and yourself a high priority.

Personally, I’m about to take a break for a while. Family summer break. We require a couple to mentally survive and thrive for another year. Unwind time is critical. I skipped a yearly vacation last year and it did far more harm than good.

Sometimes there isn’t enough time. But you have to make time to unwind. A nice peaceful unwind time can do wonders to de-stress. Water is very grounding and can help quite a bit when feeling out of time or overwhelmed. It helps to center and be at peace for a bit to be able to properly focus in life.

There is nowhere near enough time. The situation becomes ever less when a child or children are involved as well. I thought I had no time before! Now I move at insane speeds over my capability even. But for that, I still feel like there’s not enough time and I don’t get enough done! It can be frustrating. But that’s what unwind time is for. F anything else going on. Pause, relax, return with a new focus.
