The Best Gift EVER – Faith and Support!

My husband and I recently celebrated our 6 year anniversary!  Yay!  We’ve been together nearly 10 years, but we were married in May 2005.  It was the best wedding ever and we are even happier 6 years later.

If you are reading this honey, I love you.

Anyway, I will fully admit that his gift to me was WAY better than the gifts I got him…

The Gift

Picture what you know about me:  I love my husband, family, friends, our dogs, and blogging.  And right now, most of my life does have blogging involved, lol.  My biggest goals for this year were to be able to blog full time by the end of 2012 and to lose 26 pounds.  Well, I am down 25 pounds (shooting for 11 more by the end of the year) and I am on track to hit my blogging target number by the end of the year after all – maybe even sooner!

Given all of that, guess what Mr. BFS surprised me with?  He took my hand in the living room and pulled me off the couch.  He then told me to close my eyes and walked me to the front door of our house.  My close friend was following us giggling like she knew what was coming.  He gave me a kiss and I opened my eyes to see…THIS (well, it was in a box leaning against the wall, but he put it together later)!

If you cannot see that picture, my FANTABULOUS husband bought me an office desk and set it up in our spare bedroom as the beginning of my work-from-home office!  What could possibly be a better gift than having faith that I will hit my goals and supporting that in the fullest?!  Plus, he has excellent taste AND consulted with my friend (they agreed on this one), so the end result was a desk that is dang perfect in my opinion!  icon smile The Best Gift EVER Faith and Support!

Yep, I am over the moon!!!

My Gifts to Him

I bought him Portal 2 for the PC as his actual gift since he enjoyed Portal.  I also got him the Ace Ventura Pet Detective set of DVD’s since those were two of his childhood favorites that still make him smile a little if he’d flipping through the channels and sees one on.  Ahhh…physical comedy…it’s not my thing but men are simple creatures.  icon wink The Best Gift EVER Faith and Support!

So yes, I feel like he definitely got the short end of this anniversary stick.  BUT, he made me the most jumpiest, giggliest, smiliest girl in the world there for a few minutes and I’m still grinning from ear to ear.  He also seemed pretty happy with himself while I was chattering away about my plans…

General note:  there is nothing better than having faith in someone and showing your support.  icon smile The Best Gift EVER Faith and Support!

What is the absolute best gift you have ever received?  Given?  What would you want most right now?

  • That is a pretty nice desk for blogging! I’m sure you’ve already got your laptop on it this morning, along with notes for future posts! Congrats and enjoy it! :)

  • I am really jealous of the desk! I want exactly the same thing. Wonderful design and ergonomics. It’s a perfect gift, I agree. More power to you and your husband! May you be blessed with more years together.

  • Congrats and happy anniversary! That was a very thoughtful gift your husband gave you!

  • Happy anniversary, and it’s great to hear that you have an amazingly supportive husband.

My wife too is 100% supportive of my newfound blogging passion. I have recently graduated and our youngest child will be going to school in August. My plan called for me returning to work about this time. But, I have fallen in love with blogging and really want to develop it as far as I possibly can. My wife is right on board, and that makes me VERY happy.

  • @LifeAndMyFinances, funnily enough, I blog in the mornings on the table downstairs while I eat my cereal, lol. But I have used my new desk while Mr. BFS was busy on the weekends. It already has my business cards and a digital picture frame on it, hahaha.

@June, it was a $110 at Walmart (I asked a few days later just to make sure I wouldn’t freak out when I paid our credit card bill for the month), so feel free to grab it up! I will warn you though that one of the hutch pieces was cut incorrectly, so we had to drill 4 new holes in the top joining piece to get it to fit together correctly. If you have a drill, it takes 5 minutes. :-)

    @Denise, thank you!

@Hunter, supportive significant others are just plain amazing! Good luck with your blogging empire too! ;-)

  • Happy Anniversary. Very nice desk! Where’s the chair? The chair is important if you spend a lot of hours there.
The gifts I enjoyed the most were surprise weekend getaways. In fact, I could use of those right now. I think I will plan a getaway during the summer.

  • Congratulations for the new office desk! It would now be easier to work and blog. I must admit, its a really good one (your husband’s got great taste!).

  • Happy anniversary and congrats. It is a nice looking desk and you answered my question about price and location of purchase. My wife will be needing to get a desk for some of her work at home stuff soon and wanted to get off of the dining room table.

  • Congratulations on everything–the weight loss, the anniversary, and having a new ballin’ desk for your blogging adventures.

You’re absolutely right in saying that there is no better gift than support. We all need a little push from external forces every once in awhile, and to get that push from a significant other is probably the best feeling in the world.

  • Happy Anniversary! Best gift I’ve ever received was a card letting me know I was accepted to raise a guide dog puppy on my 12th birthday. My favorite present I gave someone was a photo album I made for my dad documenting our 10 day cross country road trip. Ironically right now, I really want a puppy (and a house).

  • That looks like a pretty sweet gift! I just use the couch when I blog – it works out alright, plus I get to sit next to the dog. I think the best gift I ever got was a cast iron frying pan. I’ve used it about 4 times per week since.

  • Congrats!!! Sometimes its nice to be the “winner” on anniversary gifts. I love that he was so thoughtful!!!

My fiance totally loves Portal and mindcraft so I understand you on that. Some nights I have to ask him to turn it off so he can spend time with me

  • Congrats on your anniversary! The desk looks great, and seems like a cool gift since it made you so happy. Good job, Mr. BFS.

Also, I agree that men can be simple creatures. For better of worse, I’m comfortable with my “simple” nature:)

  • Happy Anniversary and heres to many more!!! Congrats on the weight loss too. I am getting nowhere with that :) That is an excellent gift. Very thoughtful!

Our anniversary is this week too :)

  • That desk is awesome, but I tend to sprawl when I work, so I’ve converted a dining table to my desk as my home office. Faith is awesome and it’s easy for anyone to see that once you put your mind to something you’re unstoppable.

The best gift I could get right now is time.

  • @krantcents, a suprise getaway would be great!

I am using a Lifetime folding chair right (the most comfortable and heavy-duty folding chairs ever) now while I find the perfect office chair for a good price. :-)

    @Nunzio, thanks!

@optionsdude, hope the info helped. I used the dining room table too, but it was just a bit too uncomfortable after an hour or so…probably was more of a chair issue, but I’ve been wanting a little area to myself anyway, so woot!

@JT, thank you so much! Support is awesome – sexy too. ;-)

@Jenna, awwww…puppies are awesome! Good luck finding your puppy and house!

@Jeff, I use the couch at night too (one dog next to each thigh, lol), but it does hurt my back if I stay there for more than a couple of hours. Since I am planning on working on my comp for at least 6-10 hours a day when I work from home, a desk made sense. :-)

@South County Girl, Mr. BFS and I used to be that way – I would ask him to disconnect for a little Crystal time, but now it’s usually him asking me to unplug…

@Squirrelers, hey, simple is FANTASTIC! He’s been playing Portal 2 all week and keeps thanking me. :-) I love it!

@Suba, congrats on your anniversary! I hope you two have a great week!!!

@First Gen American, I take up a lot of room with paperwork at work, but with blogging, I don’t have much. Everything is on my laptop or flash drive, so my desk is going to be pretty barren for a while…

Time would be the best gift ever!

  • ODWO

    WTGo Crystal! :)

The greatest gift I’ve ever received, and is still the greatest gift 14+ years later is ….

    *** LOVE ***

    Accept no substitutes.

    Good Luck!

  • I really enjoyed reading your article. The last sentence is well said.
