I posted last week about having a ticket from Houston to Salt Lake City to visit a blogging buddy. But that buddy will be in Europe instead, so my options were to stay with his wife for 6 days or to find someone else to crash with part of the time in SLC.
Well, I also thought of another option, just getting off in Phoenix instead of catching the connecting flight to Salt Lake.
Nope…that won’t work. Even though I’ve already bought a physical seat on the plan from Houston to Phoenix and then from Phoenix to Salt Lake City, US Airways will charge me the same $200 change fee to just simply miss my connecting flight as it would if I wanted to change my ticket completely. I mean, I have to switch planes anyway! How does that make any sense? I literally am offering to simply give up my seat on two flights (coming and going from Salt Lake) for free, but they think it’s totally okay to charge me $200 for that. What?!
I don’t understand. That seems amazing stupid to me. It wouldn’t cost them anything! They could even make more by selling my seat from Phoenix to Salt Lake City! They already agreed to fly my butt from Houston to Phoenix anyway, so I just flat don’t understand.
Oh, and the best part is that their nut-job customer service agent just refused to listen to me or answer my questions. She just kept repeating herself like an inhuman robot. She couldn’t/wouldn’t explain why there is a $200 fee for just not taking the second flight. She kept repeating that I could make the change and pay the $200 fee plus their own special $25 change fee. I said that I wasn’t going to be paying $225 to change a $256 ticket, but she kept asking me every 10 seconds if I wanted to make that change. It really was like talking to a mentally challenged person or a pre-programmed robot.
Stupid Annoys Me
The US Airways rep made a special point to let me know that I bought a non-refundable ticket (like I should totally understand being screwed if I bought that sort of ticket). But a refundable ticket would have cost $300 more than the non-refundable one! That’s more than twice the price of the ticket itself, and their stupid $225 in fees is even less than that anyway! Why would anyone buy a refundable ticket in those circumstances?!
I think I am more pissed about the overall stupidity of this policy than I am about anything else. Customer service agents that don’t care just make it worse. I hung up thinking that if I could get all 25,000 of my monthly readers to avoid US Airways forever, I’d be happy. I was warned against them before, but I think every freaking airline has a policy like this. I think every airline is suffering right now because policies like this prove that people should drive whenever possible. How are airlines going to stay in business if it’s obvious that they don’t care about their passengers at all?
Airlines Suck (US Airways Just Sucks the Most)
It’s not worth flying anymore…2 hours getting searched like an outlaw, being ordered around like cattle, and being ignored like small children…that is what flying is all about now. What the hell?!
I remember being treated super special when we flew when I was young. I thought I would fly everywhere I could when I grew up. Now I am here, all grown up with entertainment money to burn, and I want to avoid airlines like the plague. It’s just sad…
So it looks like I’m staying with my buddy’s pregnant wife and 3 young children for 6 days. I was thinking of skipping the whole trip, but I refuse to let US Airways have my money for nothing. I’m making them burn fuel to carry my a$$ around. Yep, I’m that kind of stubborn.
Next year, I may be visiting new blogging friends in Phoenix, AZ and Durango, CO though. Thank you for the offers! I will be avoiding US Airways if at all possible…
What stupid airline policies do you hate? Any other airlines that I should avoid?
