Hope your holidays were awesome!!! I’ve been feeling truly loved and lucky. I think these past few weeks have been some of the best of my life.
I had a great trip overnight with my family and had a really good time with my parents, one of my uncles, and one of my sisters and her family. I’m very proud of my other sister who was hard at work at her first job. We then had an entire relaxed day with my inlaws – eating and talking and hanging out with his cousin’s 4 month old. We were completely spoiled by both sides of our family and I feel extremely lucky to have the support network we do with this kid on the way!!!
We also attended our annual 4 day board gaming convention the weekend after Christmas. So we were able to ring in the new year with laughter, board games, and a surprise birthday dinner for me thanks to friends. This week is filled with more birthday fun with both of our families, so woot!
And to top it all off, between Christmas and New Year’s, we finally received the results from those blood samples they took from me on December 14…
WE’RE HAVING A GIRL!!!
Yep, this little thing inside of me is apparently FEMALE!!!
I told Len by leaving the picture below on my laptop screen and asking him to take a look while I was making sandwiches. He nodded like it was funny, then looked at me, and then BEAMED!!!! I got a HUGE hug and I think I giggled a lot. He was sooooo excited!!!
And thanks to one of my at-home fetal heart monitor birthday gift from my bestie, Dee, I’ve been able to tune in and listen to our baby’s heartbeat any time I want. It even has a second headphone jack so Len has been able to listen live too. She moves way more than a 4 inch thing should be able to move in my opinion, LOL. I’m so happy her heartbeat sounds strong and healthy at this point!!!
Living Based on My Priorities
Nothing makes you think about personal growth as much as a developing fetus having its way with your innards. I’ve always valued the people in my life above all else. But my time prioritization for most of my 20’s was towards work – the cubicle job, then the online business, and then the pet sitting business – I would fit in my people around that schedule. But most of my 30’s has flip-flopped to prioritizing my people and fitting the business stuff around that personal schedule.
I am not 100% sure I’d be able to go back to the other way of doing things even if I wanted to, and I don’t want to at all.
What does this mean financially? We’re probably going to find out this year. With this baby on the way, we’re going to continue keeping Tiana’s schedule full with pet sitting jobs, I will blog when the mood strikes, we’ll stay on top of the online business emails and all the business record-keeping. Other than that, we’re spending time on making our infant survival plans, hoarding anything and everything that can soak up bodily fluids, and fitting in as much human time as possible before this tiny one arrives.
That might mean a lean financial year, but we can afford that and I don’t think we have much of a choice. I’m physically tired so frequently and emotionally exhausted so often that I’m just not capable of putting as much time into the businesses as I did 7 years ago.
So, will having a baby slow down our early retirement plans? I have no idea. But probably. *SHRUG*
We’ll do our best to keep ourselves on track financially, but creating a mini-human and training it not to be an asshole is definitely at the forefront of my mind. Balancing that with continuing to make money will be my new personal challenge. Let’s see how we do! 😉
Did you make your having-kids-or-not decision based on finances? Or was it mostly emotional and the financial stuff just had to be handled as it went?
FYI: I worked at a dead end cubicle job from 2005-2011 for about $30,000 per year. I went self-employed in July 2011 and make between $70,000-$90,000 through blogging, professional pet sitting, hubby's reffing, and our rental home.
